I.J.S., Intermediate Jacking Stations

bulletIntermediate Jacking Stations are used whenever the jacking forces for the total drive are expected to exceed the capacity of the main jacks, or the rating of the jacking pipe.
bulletJacking stations are slightly smaller in diameter than the pipe and can range in capacity from 100 to 1,600 tons. Diameters usually start at approximately 36". The length is around 56".
bulletThrust rings inside the I.J.S. are used to distribute the loads evenly over the pipe jacking surface. Since they need to be removed after the drive, the thrust rings are split into segments.
bulletWine Racks are inserted and internally expanded into the I.J.S. in four segments. The hydraulic jacks are attached to the wine rack, as are all the supporting hardware and are not mounted to the I.J.S. skin. This allows for quick disassembly of the I.J.S. after the drive. It also allows for less expensive I.J.S. skins.
bulletDimensions and tolerances to match the I.J.S. to the pipe are critical to it's proper operations, as well as, it's proper placement in the pipe string.
